what exactly is a CD mechanism switch?

    do you mean something that is on the cd player that you just press to choose (ie aux, cd, tuner etc) or something else?

    what are the benefits?

    a cd mechanism switcher is an adapter that gets installed inside of your vehicle's radio. it interrupts to output of the cd mechanism to allow for an aux input. this adapter is mainly manufactured for subaru's. in my opinion this device does not work very well and i would recommend using an fm modulator instead. you can find more information here

    I would agree with NickMAck in that the cd mechanism switch is more trouble than it's worth.

    Its was mainly for Subaru? Then why do I see shops that are selling these? I mean none of the sales person ever mentioned that it was for Subaru.

    What do you have to loose, if you turn it off? Why even ask? To be on the safe side turn it off and stick that stupid pin or paper clip in there.
