I am not sure whether this forum is about connecting my iPod to my radio that I have already brought by plugging the ipod in (the 3 & 3/4 or whatever its called headphone jack) or whether you mean acutally customising the unit to allow the ipod to play through it?

some aftermarket head units have a universal 1/8" (3.5mm) jack on the front. this jacks allow you to plug in you iPod, mp3 player, ect., but they do not allow control from the radio.
there are aftermarket radios out there that allow you to connect your iPod through the digital port on the bottom. then you will be able to control the iPod directly from the head unit. You can fine more information here
