I just bought an 08 Jetta with Sat radio, and can't get the thing to even give me the ESN number. I've tried it numerous times per the owners manual as well as with the assistance of Sirus, but it won't come up as it keeps saying updating. I asked the local VW dealer about it and they said Sirius won't work in Alaska so forget about it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but even if it didn't work in Alaska, wouldn't I still be able to see the ESN number on the display and not the "Call 1888 to activate with Sirius" message. I say it's a bad unit, what do you think?

Is there anyone who owns a VW in Alaska with Sat radio and it works?

I'll answer my own question for the use of others in Alaska. After working with Sirius, I was finally able to get it working just fine. I had to pull the #8 fuse under the hood to hard reset the radio system. I pulled it and left it out overnight, then on my way to work I called them to have them send the signal. It took almost 60 minutes for it to complete UPDATE but it now works great!
