Many vehicles come from the factory with aux inputs. Most of the input socket is an 1/8" (3.5mm) jack, that will allow connection of many different devices, iPod, mp3 players, laptop, etc., to your stereo system. Some vehicles do not come equipped from the factory with aux inputs. for these vehicles you need a direct aux input adapter. this adapter plugs into a port behind the radio to allow audio input. More information on direct aux inputs can be found here

It's true, aux can be used in multiple ways. Some vehicles come with an aux input option on the stereo, but some don't. That was the case with me. I had a Mazda 3 that didn't have aux input, and now my new Enclave does which is cool cuz I can connect my Mp3 player to it and jam to whatever music I like.

Aux can also be used to connect your laptop to your stereo, let's say you're watching something awesome on your computer while you're in the passenger seat, you can connect it so you can listen to it through your vehicle's speakers.

No, it doesn't mean something else that much. Aux is a term for an input used for many devices like those you guys mentioned.

Yup. That's the purpose of that input(aux). But as for me I don't use it anymore since there's blue tooth now.

I'm also using blue tooth but you know, I still find aux more reliable. Just want to share it.

Even I find aux to be more reliable but less cooler than that of blue tooth. But hey, who cares if blue tooth's cooler when you can't use it. I don't know but for some reasons my blue tooth just suddenly lose its signal.
